It’s Sleep Awareness Week—a time to pause and recognize that restorative sleep is essential to our overall health and well-being.

This year, we’re commemorating the annual event by partnering with Daphne Javitch—a health and wellness expert and founder of Doing Well who has dedicated her life to empowering others. Following her own holistic journey to overcome endometriosis, Daphne established her health coaching practice in 2015 and has since built a community dedicated to naturally vibrant living.

In a culture that celebrates hustle, Daphne looks at rest as a radical act of self-care, essential for both prevention and recovery. With sleep being the most immersive form of rest, she believes creating a truly restorative sleep environment is vital. Today, she brings her expert perspective, sharing tips to create a clean, toxin-free bedroom that can transform your health, and your life.

Daphne Javitch’s Tips for Detoxing Your Sleep

Tip #1: Refresh Your Sleep Foundation

We spend up to a third of our life in bed, so our mattress choice matters. Conventional mattresses can contain flame retardants, formaldehyde, and other chemicals that off-gas during sleep. Consider investing in an organic mattress, like Coyuchi’s Natural REM Mattress, made with natural materials like organic cotton, wool, and natural latex. These breathable options regulate temperature naturally while keeping synthetic chemicals at bay. A truly non-toxic mattress is an investment in your health, lasting longer than conventional mattresses and providing benefits far beyond just a good night's sleep.

Tip #2: Rethink Your Linens

What goes on our skin, goes in our skin and conventional bedding often contains pesticide residues, bleaches, and synthetic dyes. Upgrade to organic cotton or linen sheets that are GOTS certified, like all of Coyuchi’s sheets. These fabrics breathe better, reducing night sweats while creating a luxurious feel that improves with every wash. Organic fabrics are also considered gentler on the skin, making them a better option for people with allergies, eczema, or other skin sensitivities.

Tip #3: Mind Your Sleepwear

Again, what touches our absorbent skin for 7-9 hours each night deserves our attention. Choose pajamas and robes made from organic fabrics that are free from harmful finishes. Natural fibers like organic cotton offer breathability that synthetic materials simply can't match, helping regulate body temperature throughout the night.

Tip #4: Reset Your Routine

A truly detoxed sleep experience extends beyond textiles. Here are a few tips for a clean sleep routine:

● Establish a consistent sleep wake-schedule

● Wind down with a bath, book, or breathwork practice

● Keep your room dark, cold, and quiet

● Eat lighter and end earlier (about 2 hours before bed)

The path to better sleep doesn't require a complete lifestyle overhaul. Small, intentional changes create a cumulative effect that transforms both your sleep space and sleep quality. Your body will thank you with deeper rest and renewed energy.

Sweet dreams, naturally.
